– For 1 month –
We suggest that you rinse your mouth with Sea Salt Water for 15 seconds after each meal or cigarette and maintain good dental hygiene by brushing your teeth and tongue 2 times per day.
– For the first 48 hours –
Your tongue may swell up to twice it’s normal size. You may apply ice, drink iced water or take anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling and sensibility. It is not recommended to take ASPIRINE because it thins the blood. The swelling should go down in the next 3 to 5 days but the area around your piercing may swell for another 2 to 4 weeks. It is possible that during the night or when you awake that your piercing bleeds due to it becoming dry: your jewel may stick to your new piercing and may re-open your wound. Applying ice should stop the bleeding immediately.
During the healing process, your piercing is prone to infections. This is why the proper care is necessary to avoid any problems. Like all other piercings, a tongue piercing may create a white substance. If ever this substance becomes yellow or green, it may be an infection. If this arrives, continue to rinse your mouth with sea salt more often than the preceding days.
– You should avoid –
Spicy and hot food because your piercing is very sensitive. Dairy products because they contain a lot of bacteria and beer because it contains yeast. Oral sex is not recommended either during the healing process.
Always wash your hands with an antibacterial soap before disinfecting your piercing.
For all piercings that are both inside and outside of your mouth, you should follow the piercing care instructions for both facial and oral piercings.
